isapnp+serial+3c509+nfsroot lock up, isa-pnp problem

Sad sequence of events:

1. nfsroot activates 3c509 without isapnp
2. nfsroot operates
3. insmod serial requires isapnp
4. isapnp loads and changes 3c509 parameters
5. 3c509 gets locked up in interrupt with status 0xffff
6. the whole box is locked up.
