Gave your patch a try, only the vm one. I applied it against 2.4.0-test8 (final)
with some warnings so the bug report may not be valid.

Maybe you cleanned __alloc_pages() to much...

The machine is a UP Celeron 366Mhz with 64Mb (no SMP or HIGHMEM configured)
