(no complaints about 2.2.18pre12 from real work - my usb mouse works
well).
* make xconfig gave 2 errors:
ERROR - Attempting to write value for unconfigured variable (CONFIG_VIDEO_CPIA_USB).
ERROR - Attempting to write value for unconfigured variable (CONFIG_USB_AUDIO).
* there were many warning during compilation.
The list of C warnings that are not about unused variables etc:
floppy.c: In function `result':
floppy.c:1168: warning: `status' might be used uninitialized in this function
old_tulip.c: In function `tulip_probe':
old_tulip.c:475: warning: suggest explicit braces to avoid ambiguous `else'
old_tulip.c: In function `select_media':

namei.c: In function `xlate_to_uni':
namei.c:679: warning: passing arg 1 of pointer to function discards qualifiers from pointer target type
(there is a lot of unused variable and defined but not used things too but
these are probably unimportant).
There are also many assembler warnings. Most talk about using %eax where
%ax was asked with l suffix. Also some indirect lcalls without *. Proably
not dangerous.
