In general enabling debugging in the kernel source is not a problem.
The specific problem is with the 405 code. What was the date you got
the kernel from MontaVista? i.e /ppc-405gp/files_{date}/
the latest was posted Sept 9th and you can get is @
ftp.mvista.com/pub/Area51/ppc-405gp/files_00.09.09/
