scsi tape 2.4.x on alpha

Everytime I use the scsi tape drive in my alpha, the system oopses and locks
up. Has anyone else had this problem? This has happened with *EVERY* 2.4
kernel starting with 2.4.4 (since that was the first that actually booted on
this machine)
