I sent a message a few days ago about HPT374 problems, but have a bit of
an update.
I have two Highpoint 1540 adapter (4 port SATA) in a Supermicro
motherboard. Four drives connected to the two adapters in any combination
(i.e. 2 on each adapter, 4 on one adapter, etc.) work fine under
continuous heavy load. 5-6 total drives give me lost interrupts when the
5th or 6th drives are accessed, and the system hangs. 7-8 drives give me
immediate "drive not ready for command" errors on the 7th or 8th drives
(during boot), and when accessed, the system hangs.
I removed one of the Highpoint controllers, and put in two Silicon Image
controllers. I'm still having a similar problem. The 4 drives on the 2
silicon image controllers, and the first two drives on the Highpoint work
fine. The second two drives on the highpoint controller immediately give
me errors:
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel: hds: status error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel:
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel: hds: drive not ready for command
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel: hdq: status error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel:
Apr 11 07:02:54 nfs2 kernel: hdq: drive not ready for command
Any attempt at accessing those drives just spits out more status errors
until the system hangs.
Attached are lspci -vv and dmesg output.
