Max size of buffer shared between kernel and user application?

What is the maximum size of a memory region mapped with a ioremap().
I 'm writing a driver that will share a buffer with an application
mapping the same phys mem region using ioremap() in kernel and
mmap(/dev/mem) in the application. I'm using a Linux 2.4.18 on a HP
server with 4GB RAM.
