Okay, this sounds more likely like a kernel problem than a cdrecord
problem. If you have some time, please try with combinations of
following factors to find the reason of the trouble:

- enable swap (does not fight the root of the problems but gives you
more time to experiment)
- use a non-SMP kernel
- try kernel 2.6.7
- run cdrecord.shm instead of cdrecord or cdrecord.mmap (note that
there are some limits with .shm, see README.Debian)

AFAICS there were no such reports and that's what it is confusing. I do
not count on much help from the upstream author there.
