I don't know which change did it, but I have network connectivity in my
athlon64 test box with 0.7.33-0! Woohoo! [*]

[*] as reported before: going up to runlevel 5 killed the network, up to
leve 3 everything was fine, I was guessing probably due to some problem
with X and the radeon driver.
