have tried more boot option combinations of apci=off | irc=usepirqmask |
pci=bioirq etc. according to the various output recommendations than i care
to/can recount... using irqpoll causes a consistent hang up in boot, as does
irqnodebug

Prior to this state, btw, there was a consistent "hdc: lost interrupt: drive
appears confused", which seems to have been 'solved' by disabling HAL.....
