(I was asked to research this topic to help students. So please ignorePersonally, I use vi/vim with ctags most of the time, and occasionally just use grep and find directly. I generally don't use any auto-completion other than automatic indentation (I have a tendency to spend more time fighting with auto-completion than writing code when I actually try to use it). In general, I would highly recommend not using an IDE for working on kernel code unless you can setup the auto-formatting to be compliant with the coding standards.
this topic if all you want to say is that it is OK to code in editor
without autocompletion and any other integration, and that there's LXR
website. We all know that.)

- what's your configuration for editor integration with sources tree?
(the opposite is "just using any editor")
- which IDE/editor handiness options except autocompletion are
possible to obtain while developing kernel code, and which options do
you use?
