According to this document:

My computer only has a SD card slot and no MEMSTICK slot.

lsusb says this though:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129
Card Reader Controller

Maybe the driver gets locked up looking for the MEMSTICK slot?
