Wrapping up, at the end of the series I now get:

  [root@quaco ~]# perf record --aux-sample -e '{intel_pt//u,branch-misses:u}'
  AUX area sampling is not supported by kernel
  [root@quaco ~]#
  [root@quaco ~]# uname -a
