Re: [PATCH v2 2/3] ext4: limit the length of per-inode prealloc list
From: brookxu
Date: Wed Aug 05 2020 - 04:48:31 EST
Thx for your reply~. In our application scenario, we format an ext3
file system, and then create a daemon to write data to a sparse file.
During the business operation, we found that the sys of some cpu is
very high. Using the crash tool, we observe that the length of the
prealloc list of the inode is 200K. In general, the inode prealloc
list is released on truncate, puch hole, release file, da, abnormal
block allocation path, etc. But in our scenario, none of the above
paths have been reached, which causes the length of the prealloc
list to get out of control.
We create a test process that continuously writes sparse file, and
bind the test process to 0 core, and then record the CPU usage of 0
core. On unrepaired kernel, cpu usage as follows:
CPU %usr %nice %sys %iowait %idle
0 0.00 0.00 17.17 0.00 82.83
0 0.00 0.00 48.96 0.00 51.04
0 0.00 0.00 62.89 0.00 37.11
0 0.00 0.00 69.39 0.00 30.61
0 0.00 0.00 73.00 0.00 27.00
0 0.00 0.00 76.00 0.00 24.00
0 0.00 0.00 76.09 0.00 23.91
0 0.00 0.00 79.59 0.00 20.41
0 0.00 0.00 81.19 0.00 18.81
We can see that the CPU usage rate is increasing, mainly due to the
increasing length of the prealloc queue. On repaired kernel, cpu
usage as follows:
CPU %usr %nice %sys %iowait %idle
0 0.00 0.00 15.84 1.98 82.18
0 0.00 0.00 22.22 2.02 75.76
0 0.00 0.00 20.41 3.06 76.53
0 0.00 0.00 20.62 2.06 77.32
0 1.01 0.00 21.21 2.02 75.76
0 8.16 0.00 25.51 4.08 62.24
0 0.00 0.00 21.21 2.02 76.77
0 0.00 0.00 20.41 4.08 75.51
0 1.04 0.00 18.75 4.17 76.04
cpu sys has dropped, and system throughput has also increased.
thanks.
