This is a platform device, so Xorg will not use it automatically. There exists a list of acceptable DRM drivers in the Xorg source code. [1] You'd have to add adp there. Unless the described problem really happens in practice, I'd drop this workaround. There's no point in working around legacy userspace in modern drivers.
