Ah, ok, sorry for the confusion. This was me gathering some other suggestions
from Tony and the AET side.

Because, yes, this should be the path forward currently. A minimal patch to
fix the issue. Then, when the imminent situation is addressed, we can always
go and try and improve things at leisure like we always do.
