Broken poppassd

I got the poppassd program off of sunsite.unc.edu, and after I moved to
Linux 1.3.20, it stopped working. It would return a "unable to change
password" message whenever I tried to run it. I have straces from both
poppassd and passwd (which poppassd calls to change the password). I
don't know if this has to do with a socket problem that was fixed between
1.3.20 and 1.3.24 or not, but if someone is interested in looking into
it, I'll try to provide as much information as I can to resolve the problem.

I have also been having problems with 1.3.24 on another machine. It
seems when the machine is under heavy disk activity, it has a habit of
"Oops: 0002"'ing on me. I haven't been able to jot down the register +
trace info yet, as I've also been in the process of recovering a hard
drive, but it bombed out in the "update" process. The one time I could
switch virtual consoles, it seemed one of the consoles got corrupted. I
know this isn't much information to go on, but I promise I'll include
more information the next time I get it to happen. :)

BTW, is there an "Oops-parsing FAQ" around? I've seen information
regarding how to do it float by the mailing list a couple of times, but I
keep forgetting to save it. :/
