Socket timeouts

Hi all,

In 'UNIX Network Programming' Stevens implies that there is a default
timeout value when using read/write on sockets, on our firewall, we tend
to get some hung processes waiting on read.

This would tend to imply that Linux doesn't timeout read calls on
sockets. It this so? And if so, can I set a timeout value. I can't use
SO_RCVTIMEO with setsockopt, as this option doesn't seem to exist in
1.2.x, and as of 1.3.32 all the SO_ flags appear to have disappeared
from socket.h

Thanks.

Tony
