1.3.68 modules problem

I'm getting this when I try to load _any_ 1.3.68 modules into 1.3.68:

/sbin/insmod /boot/modules/1.3.68/ipv4/ipip.o
(main) gcc2_compiled. undefined

Now, my modules from pre-1.3.68 versions never experienced this problem (in
fact I had to force load an older SLHC and PPP module set to get my PPP
link back up). I'm running GCC 2.7.2, binutils 2.6.0.6, and the 1.3.x
module utilities. The _only_ thing I've changed recently is to patch my
kernel source tree.
