Even weirder, the "MB-8500TAC" in my new p166 system (local assembler,
the documentation doesn't admit to a vendor) has support for different
locations for the hole (AMI bios, under "chipset") --
at 768k
at 16M-384k
none at all

The latter was the obvious choice; the default is the 2nd one, linux
only detects 16M, and eventually hangs under load (the system actually
has 64M.)
