Why not?
Because there is no standard for using tab stops every 8th char! Some
people like them modulo 4. Hardcopy printers may lack tabulating at
all.
Maybe it's advised setting tabs at some specific position, but you
should not rely on them. Having tabs is a feature, isn`t it?
