Writing floppies appears to be no problem.
Hardware:
ASUS PC/I 486 SP3G motherboard, 16MB RAM, two NEC D3845 1GB Harddisks,
using NRC 53c810 SCSI controller.
Software:
a.out system (debian) with libc-4.6.27 (latest stable a.out),
Kernel 1.3.92 to 1.3.95, floppy compiled in the kernel, a mostly standa=

configuration, a few modules loaded:

msdos 6 <<<<<<<----- could it be this one??
This does not happen with 1.2.13
Detailed description:
I made a series of demo-copies on floppy disks. A set of floppies=20
consists of five disks, the first a mixture of different files, the res=
t=20
all with a single file filling up the whole floppy.
Writing these files using
mount /floppy # /floppy is in /etc/fstab, a msdos filesystem
cp -a source_directory/* /floppy
umount /floppy
causes no problem whatsoever. I wrote more than twenty floppies this wa=
y=20
yesterday.
Reading the floppies (write protected now) using either
mount /floppy
diff -r /floppy source_directory
or
mtype a:bigfile | cmp source_directory/bigfile
will lock up the machine on at least every third try, often the first o=
ne=20
will do already. The mouse freezes (always running X), no pings from a=20
remote system work, console-changing keys stop working, no disk activit=
y,=20
floppy light stays on until I press the reset button.
No traces of the crash whatsoever in the system logs. The crash seems=20
unrelated to system load and disk activity.
PLEASE HELP!! Am I the only one with this problem?
I'll try to make msdos compiled in, see if that makes any difference=20
(That was a change I made about two weeks ago, and did not heavyly use=20
floppy reads since then) Other ideas?=20
