Adaptec 1542B > 1Gig?

I've got an older Adaptec 1542B which has microcode and BIOS before the 1gig
extension done by Adaptec.

Since the adaptec driver does not require the BIOS, does anyone know if I
have to have the newer microcode to access more than 1Gig on my 2Gig hard
drive?
