As promised, the info on my hardware:
pci:
video: Stealth64 Graphics2000 Series (2M DRAM)
ether: AT-2450BT Series PCI
scsi: AHA-2940

motherboard: "mdb-pc5mb", AMI BIOS

cpu: p166

I only occasionally use the ISA floppy drive, so I doubt that that's
the problem, I still get lots of "bus master arbitration failure" messages...
