No, it is not true. We are running Linux (1.3.45 & 1.3.86) on computers
with more than 64 MB of RAM and only 256 kB of cache. No problems at all.
(It might be that some motherboards/BIOSes needs 512 kb of cache, but ...)

(Maybe someone cares to fix this design bug.)
