The following occurred under 1.99.3. I had just changed runlevel to 5
(brought up xdm) from runlevel 3 (console-only runlevel). The getty
in quesion is the latest publicly available getty_ps (2.0.7?).

My system uses libc-4.6.27 (a.out; I know, it's ancient but I haven't
the disk space to upgrade to ELF yet) and GCC 2.6.3. I would provide
.config information, but it's been wiped in preparation for the
pre-2.0.4 upgrade; apologies. Any more information will be gladly
provided.
