Well, in order for this to be at all useful we'd at least need to know
what kind of SCSI controller and what the message was. Was the
message "sector not found" by any chance? Also, what kernel were you
using? To me it sounds like the readahead beyond end of medium bug
that at least the 1.2.x kernels suffered from.
