I'm getting these errors with 1.99.3 frequently.
I have:
P-66 (ALI chipset), 32MB RAM, SMC Ether-EZ in PIO mode, Adaptec 2940WU + disk.
I've got IP aliasing compiled as a module, not active. IP Firewalling
compiled, not yet active. Nothing else that's particularly weird.
A typical message would be:

I can reliably produce a bad packet by doing a `ping -s 1000 local-ip-address`
which will produce a bad packet consistantly. It seems that the bad data
crops up every "page" or so. That's not very scientific, save that it seems
that the lossage occurs only every 4096 or 8192 bytes...
wrong data byte #978 should be 0xd2 but was 0x0
