> We HAVE a uniform graphics API already. It's called X.
I you want to make operating system really popular it means games and good
looking graphics.
And I really would like play my games under Linux rather than windows.
but if you have X as only graphical API, Linux will never come
popular among home users, simply because it does not offer what
home users want, I hope that you understand that.
Let me tell you how normal computer hobbyist (not an Unix
hacker) thinks.
What he or she wants is simplicity, because it means speed , versatility,
and does not have spend months learning complex graphical API:s.
He can start programming almost immediately if threre is only few simple
command to set for some graphics mode.
If don`t believe be take a look at all games and graphical
applications made for MSDOS, which actually does not have
graphical API at all or all wonderful demos for AMIGA.
And then take look those X-applications, you will probably
see a difference.
The point is if you want to make Linux as only an Unix, then X is maybe
enough, but if you want to make Linux really popular then Linux needs also
an another graphics interface.
I really believe that most my friends who like also Linux feel
like that too.
And thank you for you all making such a nice operating system.
