sounds like a problem with arp on the linux box Alan?
also could be arp on the other machinecan you try a third machine
to see who is "odd"
ran into something like this with SCO box and Linux
turned out the SCO was bad. reinstalling <groan> fixed it.
I also have a RedHat3.0.3 with the tulip driver PCI SMC card
i did set card to use bnc by default hey wire been in for a long..
time ;-)
