firewalling/bridging and proc tables

What is the problem with running bridging and firewalling together?
We have a system on which we are doing the packet forwarding along w/
masquerading and we would also like to have it bridge sna packets. Will
this(or when will this) be possible?

Also, why do certain utilities that rely on the data obtained from the
/proc filesystem seem to hang up when I try to get a listing? Like,
route and in particular ipfwadm -F -l or ipfwadm -M -l.
