: I just received an Asus SC200 scsi board (with NCR53C810 chip)

A partition table is not a file system.
If there is no partition table (check with fdisk), maybe you can mount
the entire disk?
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/affs.txt and mount.8 from
the latest mount release (2.5k) describe the mount options.
