shared memory faq?

hello. i am attempting to have non-root users be allowed
to use the call "shmget" and its friends.

however, if the user isn't root, i get a permission
denied error trying to use this call.

is there a faq somewhere that explains how this works
on linux? i simply have no idea what to change to get
this to work.
