I'm running a system with kernel version 1.2.11 and we are now
regularly getting "file table full" errors. (Yes, there are tens of
thousands of files on this system...)
Going through the kernel sources, in include/linux/fs.h I have found
several constants (NR_OPEN, NR_INODE, NR_FILE) and have modified them
to (I had hoped) increase the size of the file table.
The kernel _appears_ to compile fine, however, when I try to boot that
kernel, immediately after the partition check I get a kernel panic:
"Free list corrupt" and the system stops dead.
It's obvious that there is more that needs to be modified, but I am
not a kernel hacker by any means, and am quite lost at how to proceed
from here. Upgrading to a newer kernel is not an option on this
system at the current time.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
