generic scsi support working?

Is the generic scsi support working? I get SCSI timeouts on my paragon
600 scanner. I am using a Tyan 1365 (ncr 53s825) driver with 1.99.9. I
seem to be able to use the scanner with 1.2.13 (I don't want to reboot
just to use the scanner). TIA.
