I did not pick this up during the 1.3 kernel development phase (my primary
system at that time had an ATAPI CD-ROM) but something was broken after 1.2.13.
I cannot even give any kernel oops messages as the system either locks up solid
or the console streams an infinite string of [number] fields.

My system is an EXP8449 m/b with an AMD 5x86-P75 @ 133MHz, 32MB EDO RAM,
ALI 1487/1489 chipset. The SCSI card is a Pro Audio Spectrum Plus (not a 16).
Other devices on the SCSI bus work fine. The CD-ROM is a single speed device
as used by Apple in the CD-SC+ and CD-150 drives.

Under 1.2.13 (Slackware from the April 96 InfoMagic set) the CD-ROM works
perfectly. I was not able to install 2.0.0 (Slackware96 from Sept 96 InfoMagic)
until I put the CD in another system and used NFS to install.
