I have quite a few more data points now. The problem occurs from 2.1.15
through 2.1.20 inclusive, but does not occur on 2.1.14 or earlier kernels.
It also seems to be unique to the AMD DX4 processor, at least an Intel
DX2/66 does not have the same problem.
Could the author of the many i386/kernel modes that went in to 2.1.15 take
a look and see what might have gone wrong?
Thanks,
