3c509 in 2.1.20 problems..?

Just had a very odd thing happen. Was doing a lot of nfs stuff and all of
a sudden my machine just stopped talking to the rest of the world.

ifconfig said nothing odd was happening (apart from not being able to send
any packets) and a reboot fixed the problem.

Weird...
