a cautionary note.

installation of ld.so.1.8.10 into partition driven by kernel 2.1.27 with
current libs and BASH 2.00 resulted in

sh: can't resolve symbol '__iob'.

at login prompt.

login failed.

restore from tar was sucessful but destructive.
