The only thing I did not mention in my message was my kernel version,
which is 2.0.29. Will this make any difference?
BTW, I got consistent results from all of my systems:
PPro 200 (256k, 32M) ~ 10 secs
P166 (1024k, 256M) ~ 19 secs
P100 (256k, 64M) ~ 40 secs
