a known bug or what ??

This is some kind of Linux kernel bug. None of the Linux users on
the list have (to my knowledge) ever investigated why this happens,
although I see it reported from time to time. You might want to
switch to FreeBSD or NetBSD - this problem never happens on either
system. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, please dive into the
Linux kernel and see if you can figure out why this is happening -
it's probably something stupid, and as you've noticed, it's rather a
pain...
