Well Alan, I'm seeing the smiley above, so I'm not sure you are kidding
with me ;)

Anyway, it may be sufficiant to have a mimecaps entry pointing to a
modified dosemu mkdexe script to pack an incoming *.exe into a hdimage.
Because this one then would be totally isolated, a virus infected *.exe
could only destroy the hdimage, ... but this one would be a tempfile
anyway ;-) So yes, this would be a secure DOS applet under Linux.
