NFS problems

It seems like NFS is timing out, and we are having trouble reading mail
spools and files in user directories that are mounted across NFS, I tried
bumping timeo up, didn't help. Anyone mind giving me a few suggestions?
(please e-mail me). I am not sure if this applies to the scope of this
mailing list, if not, sorry.
