Taper is indeed a backup program, but I do know about not backing up
/proc, /dev, and several others (such as the file it's making, thank you.

Possible. But even then it shouldn't hang the kernel.

+ the second time round the same operation succeeded without problems.
+ I just had yet another hang. No taper this time: I was downloading
my mail, reading news with xrn and just started... netscape.
