Not a lot, except for. APM.

Check out modutils/kerneld/GOODIES/
There's a patch to the kernel which allows kerneld to
run a screensaver program.

Make login start up a login shell through something
like screen.

Ask the GGI crew about the independant scroll thing.
They've got it already. About the other bit -- it's
really not a kernel issue. We might need some new
/dev/tty* ioctls to cope with the scrollback buffer,
though.
