Sound error

I get the following in /var/log/messages:

Oct 6 00:02:10 ann kernel: Sound error: Couldn't allocate DMA buffer

Why this message? I have a Sound Blaster 16 and sound does work. Red Hat 4.2
kernel 2.0.30 plus Red Hat patches.
