And now for my next question...

Now for my next question:

I use a Boca B0016 (?) 16 port serial box. Its not the most fantastic
piece of gear I've ever used, but the price/performance ratio is pretty
sweet :)

My question is based on the following observation:

While experiencing the 5.0+ load averages on the P166 w/2.0.30 (see Crash
Recovery Problems, posted earlier if you're a masochist ;), my other users
on the network who use the machine as a ppp server/network gateway
experienced -no loss of performance-; I've often noted with glee the 0.00
load average on the system when there are ten folks dialed in surfing the
web and two or three locally connected folks authoring web content.

My question is this: is the resource overhead for PPP/gateway services
truly so low that it would make sense to relocate those services to a
smaller, slower, more stable 486 box?

All commentary Welcome-
-James

not. But obviously it cannot be where it is not. And if it is where
it is, that is equivalent to saying that it is at rest.
