That is somewhat unclear. The motherboard chipset may be trying to use
UDMA,
regardless of what you (hdparm -X34) tell the drive to do.
Linux currently includes no knowledge of what various UDMA chipsets
are programmed to do, or how to modify them.
Thay may soon change.
