2.1.84 won't boot - PCI IDE problem

I tried 2.1.82 and 2.1.84 recently, and both bombed horribly on
my machine. The problem seems to be PCI related, because 2.1.82
bombed when it couldn't find valid IRQ's for the IDE controller,
serial ports, and even the scsi card. 2.1.84 hangs right
after the EIDE driver finds my IBM Deskstar 5 -
I get the standard BM-DMA blah blah found, then the boot dies right
there.
