broken 2940 with 2.1.85

Hmmm, even with 2.1.85 my machine still stops when scanning the SCSI bus.

My configuration is:

Tyan Tomcat II (I know - ugghh)
Adaptec 2940UW
3c905
etc

The machine hangs just after saying "Scaning SCSI bus", and just before it
normally says "Sending SDDTR!!"
